Our Story

Bee Sustainable is a project made to benefit everyone – it not only changes the lives of bees who are crucial to our planet but ensures the next generation is equipped with understanding the importance bees have on our population.

This project is currently led by Karolina Dzielak, the founder and the current project leader, who is a third-year student studying Business Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Supporting her is Sydney Olszewski, the assistant project leader and garden manager, who joined the project last September. Sydney is studying landscape architecture and uses her knowledge to better the bee gardens. But they are not the only ones contributing to the project – Bee Sustainable has 28 passionate students who volunteer their time.

We believe that every bee species plays an integral part in people's daily lives, especially in a busy city like London. Bees are responsible for pollinating the food humans need to survive and trees that provide habitats for the thriving wildlife around us.

We know we can’t do this alone – we are in contact with the University of Greenwich's Sustainability team and are creating a bee garden at the university's Avery Hill campus. Our society is a part of Enactus UK, which supports students and young people across the country to engage in social action to tackle the problems of today while creating the leaders of tomorrow.

Bee Sustainable is student-led and community-based and we hope as former students, you can join us to ensure we create a more sustainable world.

Why are donations necessary?

Bees are a lifeline – from pollinating the food we need to survive to the trees that provide habitats for wildlife. Unfortunately, our daily lives have had a negative impact on bee populations. Because of pollution, overcrowding, pesticides and climate change, bees have become susceptible to disease which has had a detrimental effect on the bee population. This has huge ramifications for our wildlife.

Bee Sustainable’s purpose is to help support and rejuvenate bee species in London by creating bee gardens fitted with bee hotels. To fund the creation of these bee gardens, we will be manufacturing beeswax products – we currently create candles with profits going back into the project.

Your donation will create a generation of future sustainable change-makers

Your support will not only benefit bees and our local community; it also supports the many students involved in Bee Sustainable. Through our work, we gain valuable skills of leadership, teamwork, communication and time management.

Our network consists of business coaches, university advisors and partners such as ASDA and Schroder’s which allows us to take the project to the next level and keep improving. Being part of Bee Sustainable has allowed us to gain work experience and ethics that is crucial in the job market.

In addition to this, you will help to create a generation of future sustainable change-makers. We plan to educate younger generations on how to support bee species and use their knowledge to futureproof a positive impact on the bee population.

Donate today to help us:

  • Build bee gardens where bees can prosper by finding shelter in flowers, plants and bee hotels.
  • Maintain the communal garden space in the Avery Hill community.
  • Educate the future about bees and sustainability.

What will your donation support?

When you donate, you can support:

  • £400 will help us to create educational resources for children.
  • £600 will help us launch our candles and improve the enterprise side.
  • £1,000 will help us to clear garden space and build bee hotels
We've already spent £400 on planting bee-friendly plants at the Avery Hill campus which has provided a communal space for the Avery Hill community. Although we would love to raise the entire £2,000 – our first target is £400 to get us started.

We'll use the funds raised over the following months and years to continue developing the project sustainably.
